Excavation resumes at Dangisharan, ancient Tharu village in Dang

Excavation activities have resumed at the archaeological site of the palace of the Tharu king Dangisharan, located at Sukaurakot in Tulsipur Sub-metropolitan City-11, Dang. The objective is to transform this location into a ‘living museum’. A specialised team from the Department of Archaeology, Kathmandu, has resumed operations halted earlier, aiming to complete the excavation. The initial excavation conducted approximately eleven years ago was left incomplete, thereby hindering a full understanding of the site’s historical significance. The ongoing effort seeks to fill this gap. Churna Bahadur Chaudhary, the central treasurer of the Tharu Kalyankari Sabha, emphasised that the primary objective at this stage is to finalise the excavation process. “The team from the Department of Archaeology is actively working towards that goal,” he stated.

Karateka Gurung books second Premier League final

Nepali karate star Arika Gurung has advanced to the finals of the Karate One Premier League in Leshan, China. Gurung defeated Italy’s Clio Ferracuti 8–3 in the semi-final of the women’s +68kg Kumite category. Clio is ranked 15 with 1920 points in the league. This is her second appearance in a Premier League final. She previously won silver in the opening leg of the season in Istanbul in January. She will now face Kazakhstan’s Sofy Berultseva for the gold medal. Berultseva overcame Ukraine’s Dariia Bulay in Sen after a 5–5 draw in the other semi-final.

Fresh push to operate electric buses in Lumbini

Efforts have gained renewed momentum to bring into operation electric buses introduced nearly five years ago in the Lumbini area with support from the Asian Development Bank, aimed at promoting tourism and protecting the environment. The buses have remained unused for a long time, but stakeholders are now increasingly discussing how to utilise them effectively. The Lumbini Development Trust has already handed over five electric buses to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal. At present, the buses are stationed on the premises of Gautam Buddha International Airport. Various options are under discussion regarding their management and operation.

Banke farmers taking to maize cultivation

Farmers in Banke district have recently been shifting their focus toward maize cultivation, driven by higher income potential and reliable market access. According to the Agriculture Knowledge Centre in Banke, maize cultivation has become increasingly popular as it allows farmers to grow up to three crops a year while ensuring good returns. Dr. Binod Ghimire, Head of the Agricultural Knowledge Centre, Banke, said that farmers are becoming more attracted to maize farming as the marketing of maize has been ensured. Currently, maize is cultivated on 4,228 hectares of land in the district, yielding around 19,599 metric tonnes annually.
