Handicraft Expo in Kathmandu

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 19: A three-day Nepal Handicraft Expo and Cultural Show 2026 is set to be organised in Kathmandu.

Organised in coordination with the district and provincial councils of the Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal (FHAN), the event aims to promote handicraft products made across various districts, improve market access for local entrepreneurs, and support the commercial growth of the handicraft industry.

According to a press release issued by the FHAN, the exhibition will take place from May 22 to 24 in Kathmandu, operating daily from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

According to organisers, the expo will also help strengthen district associations through income generation, enhance employment opportunities, and connect local artisans directly with buyers. It further seeks to preserve and promote Nepal’s traditional arts, culture, skills, and ethnic cuisine while contributing to domestic tourism promotion.

The exhibition will feature around 70 stalls under the concept of ‘Make in Nepal, Brand in Nepal,’ showcasing handicrafts and other export-potential Nepali products and services. Key attractions include handicraft displays and sales, live demonstrations by artisans and craftsmen, cultural performances, and traditional ethnic food showcases.

Participants from various districts, including Kathmandu, Sankhuwasabha, Makwanpur, Dang, Bajura, Taplejung, Chitwan, Bardiya, Kavrepalanchok, Kaski, Jhapa, Dhanusha, Sunsari, Dhading, Tanahun, Palpa, Baglung, among others, are expected to take part in the event.

The handicraft sector is emerging as a major source of self-employment, generating opportunities for millions of people while contributing significantly to exports.

With an annual export value estimated at around USD 28 billion, the sector is seen as having strong potential for expansion, particularly after agriculture.
