By Santosh Subedi, Kaski, May 15: Ram Naam Satya and Paralko Aago have been considered commercially successful. Both films have performed well at the box office.
The year 2083 has opened on a positive note for the Nepali film industry.
Five films were released during the month of Baisakh. While the business figures of some films are yet to be disclosed, others have already emerged as successful ventures.
Jeth also appears set to be a busy month for Nepali cinema. Six new Nepali films ‘Ek Muthi Badal’, ‘Life Damage’, ‘Kaji’, ‘Mitjyu’, ‘Roll No. 1’, and ‘Kumbh’ are scheduled for release during the month.
‘Ek Muthi Badal’ and ‘Life Damage’ will release on April 16, ‘Kaji’ and ‘Mitjyu’ on May 22, while ‘Roll No. 1’ and ‘Kumbha’ are set to clash on May 29.
‘Ek Muthi Badal’ highlights the deeply rooted dowry system and familial complexities within Nepali society.
The film stars Aanchal Sharma, Nisha Sharma, Usha Rajak, and Bhima Mainali in lead roles, and has been directed by Sahara Sharma.
Made in the fantasy comedy-drama genre, ‘Life Damage’ features performances by Surakshya Panta, Nimesh Shrestha, Isha Thapa, and Sanjana Maharjan.
Since fantasy films are relatively rare in Nepali cinema, director Nimesh Shrestha believes the movie will offer audiences a fresh cinematic experience.
The clash between the star-led films ‘Kaji’ and ‘Mitjyu’ has also drawn significant interest. ‘Kaji’ stars versatile actor Bipin Karki in the lead role.
Directed by Laxman Rijal, the film is described as a classic love story. Alongside Bipin, the film also features Keki Adhikari, Garima Sharma, Prakash Ghimire, and Hemant Budhathoki.
‘Mitjyu’ brings together Dayahang Rai and Saugat Malla on screen.
The film also marks the acting debut of dancer Teriya Phounja Magar.
According to director Anil Budha Magar, the film revolves around friendship and social conflict.
Set for release on May 29 on Republic Day, ‘Roll No. 1’ is produced by Binod Poudel, who previously produced the successful film ‘Purna Bahadurko Sarangi’.
Director John Yonjan said the film explores how government scholarships and the pressure to secure the top roll number affect children’s psychology.
The film stars Mukun Bhusal, Sushank Mainali, Renu Yogi, and Sirjana Adhikari in leading roles.
The other film, ‘Kumbha’, is an Indo-Nepal collaborative project.
A blend of action and romance, the film reportedly features South Indian actor Surendra Thakur and adopts a filmmaking style similar to South Indian cinema.
Directed by Randhir Shrestha, the film stars Ashok Aryan, Sunil Thapa, and Sushil Pokharel.
