Kathmandu, April 4: The National Federation of the Deaf Nepal has urged the government to pass the Sign Language Interpretation Service Operation and Management Procedures soon.
On Friday, a delegation from the Federation met with the Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, Sita Badi, to present this request. The Federation has demanded the provision of sign language interpreters in government offices, non-government offices, official programs, as well as on radio and television.
In response, the Minister said she would first study issues concerning the deaf community and then take initiatives to address their concerns accordingly.
Similarly, the Federation has called for the development of sufficient terminologies and grammar for sign language, the primary means of communication for people with hearing impairments, and the provision of sign language interpreters in mainstream universities.(RSS)
