Aryal registers candidacy for HoR speaker

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, April 3: Vice-chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal, has officially registered his candidacy for the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives(HoR).

The nomination for the Speaker’s post was registered on Friday, while the election is scheduled to take place on April 5.

According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the time for filing nominations was fixed from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm today. The final list of candidates is scheduled for publication at 2:30 pm.

As per the parliamentary schedule, during the House of Representatives meeting on April 5, a proposal will be presented to elect the Speaker, with one lawmaker proposing the candidacy and another supporting it. 

After a collective discussion on the nomination notice, the matter will be put forward for decision.

Earlier, a meeting of the RSP held on Thursday had decided to field Aryal as its candidate for the Speaker’s position. Following that decision, Aryal formally registered his candidacy today.


At present, in the absence of a Speaker, the senior-most member of the House of Representatives, Arjun Narsingha KC, has been chairing the House meetings.

Following the Speaker’s election, the election for the Deputy Chairperson of the National Assembly is scheduled for April 6. Nomination registration for the post will take place on April 5.

The post has remained vacant since the term of former Deputy Chairperson Bimala Ghimire ended on March 4.
