President Paudel calls for fulfilling people's mandate of nation-building

Kathmandu, March 21: President Ramchandra Paudel has called on all stakeholders to fulfill the responsibility of nation-building as mandated by citizens through the March 5 election to the House of Representatives.     

Addressing a ceremony at the Office of the President-Shital Niwas- marking the 8th anniversary of the Madheshi Commission today, President Paudel highlighted the significant role played by the Madheshi community in movements for civil liberties in the country.     

The Head of the State noted that such movements were spearheaded with the objectives of promoting freedom, equality, social justice, good governance, development, prosperity and a sense of national unity. "The need of the hour is to acknowledge the aspirations of the people and work towards nation-building," he emphasized, urging all stakeholders to deliver on the mandate for national development and nation-building expressed by citizens through recently held elections.     

On the occasion, he commended the vital contribution of the Madheshi community to the country’s progress.     

He viewed that the Madheshi Commission had laid a foundation for protecting the identity and rights of the Madheshi people over the past seven years. Paudel also expressed his confidence in its continued active role towards the same.     

Similarly, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Anil Kumar Sinha, remarked that the diverse languages, arts, culture and history of the Madhesh region were a source of national pride.     

Minister Sinha voiced his optimism that the Commission would introduce concrete programmes to secure welfare of the marginalized communities including women and disadvantaged communities within the Madheshi communities.     

Likewise, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, Tap Bahadur Magar, underscored that the government must assume responsibility to ensure wider participation of the Madheshi community in implementation of the programmes promoting cultural and linguistic rights.     

The celebratory event also featured cultural performances by different artists.(RSS)
