By Naurate Nepali/Netra Shahi,Sinja (Jumla), Mar. 20: Prime Minister Sushila Karki visited the mountainous districts of Mugu and Jumla in Karnali Province on Thursday.

She flew from Kathmandu to Rara Lake in Mugu by Nepali Army helicopter on Thursday morning. After a brief stop at Rara, one of Karnali’s main tourist destinations, she proceeded to Jumla.

According to her press adviser, Ram Bahadur Rawal, the visit was intended to reach remote districts following the recently concluded House of Representatives elections, to thank employees, security personnel and other stakeholders, and to assess the situation on the ground.

During the visit, the Prime Minister met the Chief District Officers of Mugu and Jumla, heads of security agencies and available government officials, and expressed appreciation for their role in conducting the elections peacefully.

Jumla Chief District Officer Deepak Poudel said that, after observing Rara Lake, the Prime Minister inspected areas around the district headquarters. From the Panipokhari area near Karnali Technical School, she observed Jumla Bazaar, the surrounding hills and the broader geographical landscape. She was also briefed on security arrangements, staff mobilisation and coordination during the elections.

The Prime Minister is staying overnight at the No. 24 Bahini base in Jumla, where she landed by helicopter. Sources said the visit is largely informal, with no formal meetings scheduled beyond interactions with security officials.

During her stay, she showed interest in the overall condition of Karnali Technical School, including its academic programmes and student welfare. Students welcomed her at the gate with bouquets, and she briefly interacted with them.

She also met local residents and expressed gratitude for their unity, goodwill and cooperation in ensuring peaceful and successful elections. “The country has upheld democratic practice even in difficult circumstances, and the credit goes to the entire Nepali people,” she said.

Established in 2037 BS, Karnali Technical School is regarded as one of Nepal’s earliest technical institutions. Students, teachers and local residents welcomed the Prime Minister with red flowers.

The main purpose of the visit was to acknowledge the successful completion of the elections and to thank the public for their support during the government’s short tenure. She is scheduled to visit Chandannath and Bhairavnath temples on Friday before returning to Kathmandu.

The Prime Minister is accompanied by Chief Personal Secretary Durga Prasad Subedi, Adarsh Kumar Shrestha and Press Adviser Ram Bahadur Rawal.

Meanwhile, according to our Mugu correspondent Hari Krishna Aidi, the Prime Minister reached Rara Lake at around 10:30 am on Thursday and met security officials.

During the visit, she described Rara Lake as one of the cleanest and most pristine places in the country, and thanked all those involved in making the elections successful.
