Govt hailed for holding election successfully

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 14: The Citizens’ Campaign for Clean Elections has expressed its appreciation to the government of Nepal for its role in successfully conducting the House of Representatives election held on March 5.

A delegation from the campaign, including Chairperson of Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) Bijay Raj Gautam and President of the Nepal Human Rights Organisation Indra Prasad Aryal, met Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal at Singha Durbar on Friday. 

During the meeting, they thanked the government for its significant role in ensuring that the House of Representatives election, held on March 5, was conducted peacefully, fairly and in an orderly manner, according to the Secretariat of the Minister. 

The campaign also expressed gratitude to both the government of Nepal and the Election Commission for their roles in successfully organising the election.

On the occasion, Home Minister Aryal said the parliamentary election had been conducted in a peaceful and enthusiastic environment and thanked all concerned stakeholders who contributed to the process.

He said that seeking a public mandate through elections, an important exercise of the democratic process, is constitutionally and legally the most appropriate means. According to him, the election has achieved significant progress in implementing the Constitution and institutionalising the rights secured by the Nepali people.

Minister Aryal further said that the enthusiasm and active participation shown by voters across the country in making the election free, fair, fearless and dignified reflected the public’s strong commitment to democracy.

The campaign stated that the role played by the Ministry of Home Affairs in ensuring that the election was conducted peacefully, respectfully and without fear despite challenging circumstances was commendable and had further strengthened citizens’ trust in democracy.

In its letter of appreciation, the campaign said that periodic elections are a fundamental pillar of the democratic governance system. It praised the government’s policy, administrative and security arrangements and coordination in conducting such a sensitive national responsibility in a fair, transparent and credible environment.

The campaign also acknowledged that the maintenance of law and order during the election period, efforts to ensure a participatory environment for citizens, and proactive initiatives by the government to enhance public trust in the electoral process had made an important contribution to strengthening public confidence in the democratic system.

It further appreciated the coordinated and responsible roles played by government ministers, security agencies, administrative mechanisms and all concerned bodies in making the national event a success. The campaign also expressed confidence that the government would continue to demonstrate active leadership and commitment in upholding democratic values, the rule of law, protection of human rights and promotion of good gover nance in the future.
