By Amar Raj Naharki, Tanahun, March 11: The construction of the Buldikhola Bridge connecting
Deuralinagar of Ward No. 3 and Bhadgaun–Bigyanchowr of Byas Municipality-1 has
gained momentum in recent days.
After a long period of uncertainty and technical obstacles,
the project has now achieved 45 per cent physical progress.
According to Rabindra Tiwari, Division Engineer at the Infrastructure
Development Office Tanahun, an earlier constructed beam and slab of one span
were found to be substandard during construction.
He said that although the pillars of the bridge were
technically sound, the upper structure was found to be weak. Following a policy
of not compromising on quality, the contractor was instructed to demolish the
substandard structure and reconstruct it.
Accordingly, the construction company has removed the weak
portion and accelerated reconstruction work.
The bridge, which is 25 metres long and 8.4 metres wide, was
constructed in 2021 AD at a cost of Rs. 5.103 million. However, the project had
faced delays due to various reasons.
The construction work gained pace after the electric
transformer located at Bigyanchowr of ward-1was relocated, which had earlier
been a major obstacle.
Officials said that the contractor has now mobilised
additional manpower and equipment after the transformer was removed.
Although the deadline for completion of the bridge is till
the end of April, the recent progress indicates that an extension may be
required to complete the remaining work.
Once completed, the bridge is expected to benefit residents
of Wards 1, 2 and 3 of Byas Municipality. In particular, students of five
schools and a college, will no longer have to cross river during rainy season.
