By Phadindra Adhikari, Lekhnath, Feb 27: The sale, distribution, transportation, and consumption of alcoholic beverages have been prohibited in Kaski District from Friday until the election results are officially announced in view of the upcoming House of Representatives member election.
The District Administration Office Kaski issued a notice stating that the ban on alcohol came into effect from 12:00 midnight on Friday.
Assistant Chief District Officer Shiva Lamsal said the decision was made in accordance with the Election Security (Management) Directive, 2078, the notice issued by the Election Commission of Nepal, and the decision of the District Security Committee to ensure that the election is conducted in a clean, fair, dignified, peaceful, and fear-free environment.
“From 12 midnight today (Friday) until the final election results are announced, the sale, distribution, transportation, and consumption of alcoholic beverages are prohibited throughout Kaski district,” he said.
The administration has requested all hotel operators, alcohol traders, political parties, candidates, representatives, and the general public to cooperate in maintaining public peace, security, and social harmony during the election period.
Lamsal said that security agencies will carry out close monitoring and surveillance to enforce the notice, and anyone who violates it will face action in accordance with prevailing laws.
A total of 308,572 voters have been registered in Kaski for the election scheduled on March 5. There are 153 polling stations and 363 polling booths in the district.
