All side meeting held in Birgunj, decision to lift curfew

By Dipak Prasad Gautam, Birgunj, Feb 23: An all side meeting held at the Parsad district administration office to resolve the tension between two communal groups that erupted Sunday morning has made a three-point decision.

Initiated by the Sadbhav (Goodwill) committee, the meeting was attended by the chief district officer, Bhola Dahal, chiefs of the security forces in the district, leaders of the political parties and figureheads of the Hindu and Muslim communities.

The meeting decided that the culprits of the incident that occurred on Sunday evening at Shreepur in Birgunj-11 will be brought to justice, the police will record necessary case and make report from the victim and move forward the process at earliest and that the religious figureheads will facilitated to bring the culprits to justice.

Those that provoked the personal incident into something that affected religious and social harmony, those who spread misinformation in social media and those who disseminated hate speech will also be taken into account as per the cyber and existing laws, according to the decision.

 

Tabarej Ahamad, Parsa district chair of Janata Samajwadi Party, who attended the meeting, informed that all the agencies and organisations that participated in the meeting will issue statement urging people to maintain social harmony.

The meeting of the district security committee will lift the curfew imposed since Monday morning.

Local administration had imposed restriction in the wake of possible communal clashes following conflict between groups of youths of two separate communities.
