Nepali Embassy formally inaugurated in Lisbon

Lisbon (Portugal), Feb 20: The Nepali Embassy in Portugal has been formally inaugurated.     

Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai and Portugal's Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Dr Ana Isabel Javier, jointly inaugurated the facility at Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, amidst a ceremony on Thursday.     

The facility was established in last April. Though the formal inauguration was held on Thursday, the Embassy had been providing services since its establishment.     

On the occasion, Foreign Secretary Rai expressed his hope that the role of Embassy would remain crucial in further strengthening the bilateral ties between the two countries.     

The Secretary of State promised continued support to the Embassy from the Government of Portugal.     

Nepal's Ambassador to Portugal, Prakash Mani Paudel, said the Embassy was expected to serve as a bridge for further strengthening the bilateral ties between Nepal and Portugal.     

Senior officials from the Portugal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives from the diplomatic missions, Embassy employees and media persons were present on the inaugural session.     

Meanwhile, during an interaction held by the Embassy, the participants who were from the Nepali community put the issues they have been facing, and grievances concerning the Embassy services and documentation procedures.     

The Foreign Secretary responded that he was committed to addressing the concerns of Nepal in Portugal.     

 The Embassy, in the presence of the Non-Resident Nepali Association and representatives from other Nepali organizations here, observed the 76th Democracy Day. Nepal-Portugal Bilateral Consultative Mechanism Meeting is being held in Lisbon and Secretary will be co-chairing it.(RSS)
