KABUL, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) :More than 4 million Afghan refugees have returned to their homeland, Afghanistan, in nearly one year, Abdul Mutalib Haqqani, spokesperson for the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, said.

A total of 4,076,808 Afghan refugees have returned to Afghanistan since the beginning of the current Persian calendar year of 1404, and the figure includes those returned voluntarily and deported, the National Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA) quoted Haqqani as saying Thursday night.

All the returnees and those deported after temporarily staying in the camps and receiving necessary aid have been transported to their respective home provinces, the official media outlet added.

More than 8 million Afghan refugees have returned voluntarily or been repatriated from neighboring states and regional countries since the Afghan government took over power in August 2021, according to the RTA.
