kathmandu, February 19: Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) correspondent Sushil Darnal is honoured with this year's 'Best Correspondent Award–2082'.
Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav presented the award at a function held today on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the RSS.
Reporter with the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), the National News Agency, Darnal is active in journalism since the past 16 years (since 1 Febeuary, 2010). He is into journalism for 16 years now contributing to various news papers as well, covering issues of Marginalized Community (woman, dalit, who experience social, economic, and/or political exclusion or discrimination based on characteristics such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, disability, or religion.), social justice and equality, Parliment, politics etc.
According to the Samata Foundation, which has been conducting research on the Dalit community, Darnal is the first person from the Dalit community to receive the 'Gold Medal' in Journalism. He has previously received the 'Leadership Award,2019' from Bangladesh and the Nepal Government's 'Youth Journalism Award,2024. Journalis Darnal was born in 2046 BS in Rainadevi Chhahara-5, Mujhung, Palpa.
He has also received the 'Child Sensitive National Journalism Award, 2017' jointly awarded by the Government of Nepal's Central Child Welfare Committee and the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), the 'The Best Youth Journalism Award, 2017' presented by the Reporters Club Nepal, the 'Press Council Inclusive Journalism Award, 2016' awarded by the Press Council Nepal and 'Bhairav Risal Media Fellowship-2025' awarded by The Environment and Public Health Organisation (ENPHO).
He was honoured by the Government of Nepal, Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens for his contribution to raising public awareness through journalism against human trafficking and smuggling in the year 2019. Darnal was honoured also in 2012 for contributing through journalism to the respect, promotion, and advancement of the path shown by the martyrs. Journalist Darnal, who writes about issues of marginalised communities, has authored the books 'Dalit Representation and Content in RSS' and 'Maya Pani Bitulo (Even Love is Untouchable)' in the years 2020 and 2024.
