By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 19: Nepal is observing the10th Election Day on Thursday. Every year, Falgun 7 is commemorated as Election Day to mark the anniversary of the country’s first general election conducted on the basis of universal adult franchise.
The historic polls commenced on 7 Falgun 2015 B.S. and concluded on 21 Baishakh 2016 B.S., granting Nepali citizens the opportunity to exercise their sovereign right to vote for the first time in the nation’s history.
Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has called on political parties, candidates and voters to ensure a clean, free, fair, and peaceful election of the House of Representatives.
In a message issued on the occasion of the 10th Election Day, Bhandari urged all stakeholders to cooperate with the EC in creating a secure and conducive environment for the upcoming election announced by the President following the Gen-Z movement.
He expressed confidence that the election would help restore democratic government.
Emphasizing the Election Commission’s guiding motto, “Clean, Free, Fair, Credible, Transparent and Economical Elections: Peace, Stability, Prosperity and Good Governance”, Bhandari said that the Commission, in coordination and partnership with all concerned stakeholders, was committed to conducting the election in a credible manner.
