By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 16: A film 'Maya Bhanekai Yesto Hola’ has been officially announced amid a programme held on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri in the capital on Sunday.
With this film, actress Rekha Thapa is returning to directing after a long hiatus.
Having directed films like Himmatwali and Malika, this marks Rekha’s third directorial venture. After nearly eight years away from directing, Rekha will this time work outside her own banner, Rekha Films.
Produced under the Diya and Amu Films, this film will feature an ensemble of veteran and currently popular faces from the Nepali art scene.
The film will star senior actors Madan Krishna Shrestha and Dil Shrestha, alongside former Miss Nepal Srishti Shrestha, Namrata Shrestha, and former Miss Nepal International Niti Shah in lead roles.
With the announcement of the film, the production team also released two first-look posters. The first poster features Dil Shrestha alongside the three actresses Srishti Shrestha, Namrata Shrestha, and Niti Shah.
The second poster shows actor Dil in an emotional pose with veteran actor Madan Krishna Shrestha.
Additionally, actors Laxmi Giri, Rajaram Poudel, Bishal Pahadi, Sangam Bhandari, Sujata Shrestha, and Binod Poudel will also be part of the cast. Produced by Hari Narayan Shrestha and Maya Devi Shrestha, the film promises to highlight social emotions through a love story.
According to the production team, shooting will begin from the last week of February, with a target to release the film during the Teej festival.
At the press conference, director Rekha Thapa said that the film depicts events from our own society. She said, “This film highlights subjects that have happened in your life, in my life, and what society has experienced. As a director, I have presented it as a story of the people themselves.”
Regarding the presence of three former Miss Nepals, Srishti Shrestha, Namrata Shrestha, and Niti Shah, Rekha clarified, “They were not chosen just for their Miss Nepal titles. They were selected because they fit the story and the requirements of the film.”
Senior actor Madan Krishna Shrestha said that working under Rekha Thapa’s direction felt like entering a whole new world. He said, “I am not just a comedy actor, through films like Paran, I have proven myself in serious roles. I will also have a strong role in this film.”
Writer of the film, Dhruva Lamsal, also returning to writing after ten years, stated that a lot of effort went into the script. In a humorous tone, he said, “After watching this film, my friends will not scold me, instead, I am confident they will praise me.”
