By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 14: TikTok has officially launched its in-app Election Centre in Nepal, introducing a dedicated hub designed to provide users with accurate, reliable, and authoritative information ahead of the country’s upcoming election.
The in-app Election Centre builds on TikTok’s election integrity efforts across more than 200 elections globally since 2020 and reflects the company’s broader commitment to connecting users with trusted information while removing harmful content from the platform.
As part of this initiative, TikTok has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Election Commission, Nepal (ECN) to support election integrity efforts in the country.
Furthermore, TikTok conducted a capacity building Election Integrity Workshop at the ECN premises focusing on promoting responsible digital engagement, combating misinformation, and strengthening understanding of election integrity among key stakeholders.
The in-app Election Centre is developed in partnership with the ECN to make it easier for people to find official and trustworthy election-related information in one place.
The hub provides an overview of Nepal’s electoral process, information on how and where to vote, tips on identifying misinformation, and direct links to official resources from the ECN.
TikTok will also apply election tags to relevant content and selected searches, linking users directly to the Election Centre.
"Elections are a critical moment for any democracy, and TikTok recognises its responsibility as a platform that helps shape public discourse. Through this partnership, we aim to support informed participation, promote peace, and provide a safe space for positive digital expression. The Election Centre is designed to help ensure that people in Nepal can access authoritative voting information where they already are." said Ferdous Mottakin, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations, South Asia at TikTok.
