Discipline, training foundation of police organisation: IGP Karki

By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Feb. 13: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki has said that discipline and training form the cornerstone of the police organisation. Addressing a special ceremony on Thursday to mark the 70th anniversary of the National Police Training Academy here, the IGP said that the Academy’s contribution over the past seven decades in strengthening the foundation of discipline and training has been commendable.

He said that in light of evolving security challenges, rapid technological advancement and the emergence of new forms of crime, the Academy’s timely efforts to refine its training system and delivery methods were praiseworthy.

Emphasising that quality training is essential not only to enhance the effectiveness of police services but also to increase public trust in the force, IGP Karki stressed that the Academy’s role must become even more effective in establishing discipline and a spirit of service as the exemplary identity of the Nepal Police. On the occasion, IGP Karki presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to retired Police Inspector Thaga Prasad Chaudhary in recognition of his significant contribution to training and other areas within Nepal Police.

Similarly, he awarded a certificate of appreciation along with the Best Training Centre Running Shield to Senior Superintendent of Police Tara Devi Thapa, Commandant of the Nepal Police School, Bharatpur, Chitwan, which was recognised as the best training centre for its notable contribution to producing skilled and professional personnel through well-managed and effective training activities.

The IGP also launched ‘Prerna-2082’, a publication issued by the National Police Training Academy, Maharajgunj. The distributed prizes to the winners and runners-up of a tug-of-war competition and presented an award to Police Inspector Umesh Gurung Shrestha for outstanding performance while serving at the Academy. 

On the same occasion, Executive Director of the Academy, Additional Inspector General of Police Shiddhi Bikram Shah, delivered a vote of thanks, stating that the Academy family remains fully committed to preserving the dignity, distinctiveness and professionalism of the institution, which is regarded as an ideal and exemplary establishment of Nepal Police.

Director of the Academy and Deputy Inspector General of Police Dinesh Kumar Acharya presented the Academy’s annual report.
