President hails Sunil Thapa's lasting legacy

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 12: President Ramchandra Poudel has expressed his grief over the sudden demise of senior actor Sunil Thapa.

The President said Thapa’s contributions, which will always be remembered by moviegoers both within the country and abroad, serve as an inspiration for future generations.

“Thapa, who contributed to acting, modelling, sports, and the film industry, was able to win the hearts of millions of viewers. His performances have had a profound impact on films dealing with musical, revolutionary, and social themes,” President Paudel mentioned in a condolence message sent to Thapa’s family on Wednesday. 

The President further added that Thapa’s demise is an irreparable loss to the Nepali film industry.

President Paudel, while paying tribute to the late Thapa and wishing for the eternal peace of the departed soul, also conveyed his deep condolences to the bereaved family. 

The condolence message was handed over to Thapa’s family at their residence by the President’s Press Advisor, Kiran Pokharel, and Chief Personal Secretary, Avagya Paudel.

Thapa passed away on Saturday at Norvic Hospital in Thapathali at the age of 68. He had been a prominent figure in Nepali and Indian cinema for decades, and his sudden demise has deeply shocked the entire film community.

 He was particularly cherished by audiences for his unforgettable role as ‘Rate Kaila’ in the film Chino. He is the most iconic villain in Nepali cinema. Thapa’s last rites were performed on Sunday at Pashupati Aryaghat.
