Bagmati, Feb 6: Five people whose mothers are Nepali citizens and fathers are foreign nationals have been granted naturalized Nepali citizenship identity card from the District Administration Office (DAO), Makawanpur.
The DAO, Makawanpur issued the naturalized citizenship identity card to these five people in their mothers' names after the Nepal Citizenship (Fourth Amendment) Regulations -2082 BS made to amend the Nepal Citizenship Act-2063 BS was approved by the council of ministers and published in the official gazette.
Under the revised regulation, these individuals received naturalized citizenship of Nepal in their mothers' names.
According to Mohan Raj Joshi, Assistant Chief District Officer, naturalized citizenship was granted to five applicants who submitted the required documents in accordance with the revised law.
Among them, three are from Nawalpur in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-11, one is from Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan-4 while another recipient is from Raksirang rural municipality.
Despite having Nepali citizen mothers, five individuals had been unable to obtain citizenship identity card for a long time because their fathers were foreign nationals.
They had repeatedly approached the DAO in Makawanpur seeking the citizenship identity card.
Following the amendment to the Citizenship Act, they were finally granted citizenship identity card, informed Assistant CDO Joshi.
He further said the new rules allow citizenship to be issued in the mother's name if there is adequate proof that the father is a foreigner.
Based on the amended provision, all five individuals were given naturalized citizenship, he added. (RSS)
