blog

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb.6: Ekta Books, Kathmandu, is set to mark Valentine’s Week with its annual 'Bookstore Date' programme, scheduled from February 8 to 13. Designed as an alternative to conventional Valentine’s celebrations, the week-long event brings together literature, conversation, and shared experiences in a bookstore setting.

The programme will open on February 8 with a special highlight titled 'A Shared Love for Nepali Literature,' featuring noted writer Amar Neupane, in conversation with moderator Ken Subedi, director of Shangri-la Sambad. The discussion, beginning at 2 pm, will focus on Nepali literature, reading culture, and the emotional and social themes that continue to shape contemporary writing in Nepal.

Neupane is widely regarded for his contribution to modern Nepali literature, particularly for works that reflect everyday life, human relationships, and social realities. The session aims to create space for readers to engage directly with the author, offering insights into his writing journey, the role of storytelling in society, and the evolving place of Nepali literature among today’s readers.

According to Ekta Books, the event has been curated to be accessible not only to regular readers but also to those who may be exploring Nepali literature for the first time. Alongside the moderated discussion, the session will include audience interaction and a book-signing segment.

The Valentine’s Week Bookstore Date is open to couples, friends, families, and solo visitors. Throughout the week, Ekta Books will host a range of activities, including themed sessions, interactive challenges, a movie screening, and a live doodle booth. Visitors will also receive a 20 per cent discount on all books during the event period, and will be rewarded with vouchers for participants who win the scavenger hunt games.

By beginning the celebration with a literary conversation centred on Nepali writing, Ekta Books aims to foreground literature as a medium for connection and reflection. The highlight with Amar Neupane sets the tone for a week that places books and conversations at the heart of Valentine’s Week.

All events will take place at Ekta Books, Thapathali, and entry is free.
