By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 3: The Amar Nembang Limbu Memorial Literary Honour and Award will be jointly presented to writers Deepak Sapkota, Devendra Shakten and Malisha Yakthunmba Limbu.
They receive a purse of Rs. 50,000 each.
Releasing a press release on Monday, the Amar Nembang Limbu Memorial Foundation, established by family members of Nembang, announced that the awards will be presented during a programme to be held in Phidim on February 9, marking the seventh memorial day of the late Nembang.
Essayist and journalist Sapkota has an essay collections titled 'Location', a number of articles and poems published in various newspapers and magazines, to his credit. The former editor of Pandulipi Literary magazine, Sapkota is currently associated with Kantipur daily. He has edited many books, including 'Nirbandha Montage' and others.
Poet Shakten, a prominent voice in Nepali poetry, hails from Chimphula, Panchthar. His poetry collection Dantya Kathako Desh has been published, and he is also active in essay writing.
Malisha Yakthungba Limbu, a veteran writer who has long been writing in the Yakthung (Limbu) language, has published dozens of literary works.
Likewise, students from three schools in Falgunanda Rural Municipality have been selected for the Meritorious Student Scholarship. The recipients include Soni Nembang, an eighth grader of Shree Saratap Manaratna Secondary School, Saratap (Falgunanda-3); Anjan Chemjong, a ninth grader student of Shree Krishna Secondary School, Chilingdin (Falgunanda-4); and Khambekhang Chemjong, an eighth grader student of Shree Jalsingh Secondary School, Chimphula (Falgunanda-3).
The late Amar Nembang, who had also served as the then chairperson of Falgunanda Rural Municipality, passed away on February 9, 2020, shortly after addressing a public programme. The foundation established in his memory has been continuously contributing to the fields of literature, education, and social service.
