Nepal welcomes 92,573 tourists in January

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 2: Nepal’s tourism sector kicked off 2026 on a positive note, recording 92,573 International Visitor Arrivals (IVAs) in January. 

According to the Nepal Tourism Board, the figure represents a 15 per cent increase compared to January 2025, signaling renewed global interest in the country as a travel destination.

A total of 79,991 tourists arrived in Nepal in the month of January 2025 while 79,100 tourists arrived in Nepal in the month of January 2024.  

The tourist arrival in the month of January 2026 is 14 per cent higher than the pre-pandemic level recorded in January 2019, according to NTB. 

A total of 82,273 international tourists visited Nepal in the month of January 2019.

Nepal’s tourism sector witnessed a remarkable resurgence in international visitor arrivals in 2025 as well. 

According to NTB, Nepal welcomed over 1.158 million tourists in 2025, marking a significant recovery and growth of nearly 9 per cent compared to the previous year. A total of 1,147,548 foreign tourists visited Nepal in 2024.

According to the NTB, the highest number of tourists arrived in Nepal from India in the month of January this year. 

In the month of January, this year, a total of 26,624 tourists have come from India while 9,101 tourists from China and 8,406 tourists from United States of America have visited Nepal, according to the NTB.

Similarly, a total of 5,814 tourists from Bangladesh and 4,957 people from Australia have come to Nepal.

The share of India to the total tourist arrival in the month of January is 28.8 per cent while the share of China 9.8 per cent, USA 9.1 per cent, Bangladesh 6.3 per cent and Australia 5.4 per cent.

Region-wise, share of tourist from Asia (SAARC) stood at 39.3 per cent (36,375 people), Asia (others) at 26.1 per cent (24,161 people), Europe at 12.3 per cent (11,419 people), Americas at 10.8 per cent (9,959 people) Oceania at 5.7 per cent (5,247 people), Middle East at 1 per cent (940 people), Africa at 0.4 per cent (350 people) and others at 4.5 per cent (4,122 people) in the review month.
