By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 5: Nepali documentary film ‘Co-Husband’ (Sahayak Shreeman) has been selected for the 12th Ethnographic Film Festival, which takes place in Paris, France.
Director Ganesh Pandey informed that the film’s official distribution company, based in the United States, Documentary Educational Resources, confirmed the selection.
He also added that a special invitation has been extended to participate in the festival, which will take place from April 2 to 5 in Paris. The film, which introduces Nepali documentary cinema to the global audience, has previously received awards and critical acclaim at various international platforms.
After winning the First Prize at the Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF), its selection at prestigious international festivals is considered a significant achievement for the Nepali documentary sector.
This 35-minute documentary, based on the practice of polyandry, was shot in the Humla district of Karnali Province.
The unique tradition where all brothers in a family marry a single woman still exists in some Himalayan regions of Nepal. Director Pandey has brought this subject to the screen for the first time.
