Maintaining religious harmony, election security discussed

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 5: A meeting of the Central Security Committee was held at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday. Chaired by Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, the meeting discussed election security and recently surfaced activities of religious disharmony and hatred of Muslim community in different Tarai districts. 

Informing about the Committee meeting’s decision, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs Ananda Kafle said that the meeting took a briefing about the detailed preparation made by the three security agencies on March 5 elections to the House of Representatives.

According to Joint Secretary Kafle, the meeting mainly focused on the abrupt religious and cultural disharmony and hatred seen in Tarai region of Madhes Province, specially targeting Muslim community, and taking stern action against those involved in spreading and posting such false and hate speech and contents on social media targeting some specific religious community. 

The meeting has also decided to give direction to the local administrative bodies to play coordinated roles in controlling such activities and urge the Provincial and Local governments to minimise such unruly religious activities that create disharmony and social misconduct in the society.

Likewise, the meeting also decided to call separate meetings along with the members of the National Human Rights Commission, other constitutional commissions and security agencies to discuss the above matters in detail and take other prompt measures to maintain social and religious harmony in the particular districts of Madhes Province, informed Joint Secretary Kafle.
