Born to Khagraj and Tulsi Pokharel in Syuga Khada, Banglachuli Rural Municipality-1, Dang, Rekha displayed exceptional singing talent from a young age.

She took part in numerous cultural programmes within her community and at school, showcasing her musical talent.

Within a short period, she won the Best New Female Singer award at the recently held Ninth Rapti Music Awards for her song “Maya Sahrai Chha.”

Other songs in her melodious voice, including “Bhagyama Shree Chha” and “Dekhauna Lai Haina Maya,” have also become highly popular among Nepali audiences.

Speaking to The Rising Nepal, Pokharel attributed her success to the support of her family and the affection of her audience, whom she described as ‘God-like viewers.’

She added that with dedication, continued audience support, and guidance from senior artists, she is confident she can sustain a livelihood through music.

“I often hear from senior artists about earning well through cultural programmes, fairs, and festivals both in Nepal and abroad. I have seen artists travel to different countries and return successfully. I believe that if one continues to receive love and support from audiences, making a living through music is certainly possible,” she said.
