2nd edition of 'Samalochak Ka Aankhama Harihar Khanal' launched

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 10: The second edition of the book ‘Samalochak Ka Aankhama Harihar Khanal’ has been released amid a programme held in Kathmandu on Tuesday. 

The programme was held at the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, which was attended by Editor Achyut Ghimire, Chancellor of the Academy Narad Mani Hartamchhali, former Chancellor K. K. Karmacharya, Dr. Tulsi Bhattarai, Prof. Dr. Khagendra Prasad Luintel, senior litterateur Dayaram Shrestha, author Harihar Khanal and many other writers.

The book is edited by Prof. Rajendra Subedi and Tej Bilas Adhikari. The publication of the book and the organisation of the event were carried out by Aalekh Literary Monthly.

Providing an extensive review of the book, Prof. Dr. Ram Prasad Gyawali remarked that a critics serve as a mirror, allowing the author to understand their own strengths and weaknesses. 

"It is a rare anthology of opinion, analysis and interpretation on the creation of a single writer that is worth reading. Khanal's contribution to Nepali literature can be explored and understood through this book," he said.

Prof. Gyawali commented that Nepal has collectors but not editors.

Many of the words on Khanal’s personality and writings—from earlier years to the present—have been included in this work. It includes 65 articles, including five in English language, contributed by 58 authors. 

"This is an effort to give a wholesome insight into the work and personality of Harihar Khanal, who has made an immense contribution to Nepali literature and education," said Adhikari. 

Born in July 1948 in Kaski, Associate Professor Khanal was engaged in teaching for more than four decades and served as the Campus Chief at saptagandaki Multiple Campus in Bharatpur, Chitwan. 

A renowned creative writer, Khanal has authored nearly two and a half dozen books, including short stories, novels, diaries, essays, memoirs, travelogues, literary interviews, criticism, and translation.

The 440-page volume includes critics, analysis authored by critics and commentaries on creations by Khanal published in newspapers. The first edition of the book was published in 2013.
