By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 9: India’s East Bengal FC thrashed Bhutan’s Transport United Ladies FC 4‑0, making a strong statement at the ongoing SAFF Women’s Club Championship in Kathmandu.
With the win, East Bengal drew level on points with Nepal’s APF FC, who also recorded a 4‑0 victory over Bangladesh’s Nasrin Sports Academy on the opening day, 5 December.
Nepal and East Bengal now share the top spot with three points each, while Karachi City from Pakistan sit third with two points after back‑to‑back draws. Karachi held Transport to a goalless draw in the opening match and later shared the spoils with Nasrin in Monday’s fixture. Nasrin and Transport have one point each from two matches.
In Tuesday’s first match, East Bengal showed clear intent from the word go and dominated proceedings keeping Transport's keeper Sangita Monger busy. After missing a couple of early chances, they finally broke the deadlock in the 35th minute through Fazila Ikwaput. Transport managed to restrict them to 1‑0 at half‑time, but the second half saw the floodgates open as East Bengal added three more goals.
Sulanjana Raul doubled the lead in the 59th minute, followed by Resty Nanziri’s strike five minutes later. Fazila sealed the contest with her second goal in the 72nd minute, completing a brace and securing a 4‑0 triumph for her side. She was later named Player of the Match.
