NAFA hosts exhibition of KU students' artwork

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 9: The exhibition titled ‘Reimagine Tradition II’ has begun at the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) on Monday. 

The exhibition features artworks produced during a workshop by students of the Kathmandu University School of Art, under the Department of Arts and Design. 

The event has been organised by Kathmandu University School of Arts and School of Engineering, in collaboration with the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts.

The exhibition was inaugurated by NAFA Chancellor Nardamani Hartamchhali. 

Speaking at the event, Chancellor Hartamchhali said that today’s students are the future leaders of the country in every sector and urged them to engage in creativity. 

He said that thematic exploration, sculptural concepts, and intellectual practice in creation play an important role. He further added that knowledge emerges from the harmony between emotional depth, intellect, and academic insight.

Highlighting the significance of such exhibitions, he mentioned that they help evaluate student artworks and foster a creative environment. 

Industrial designer Ramesh Shrestha said that the exhibition is special because it is entirely based on the students’ original creations. 

He added that it showcases handcrafted artworks that reflect both tangible and intangible heritage and culture.

At the programme, Head of the Department of Art and Design at Kathmandu University, Sagar Manandhar, emphasised the need to implement a curriculum that expands the knowledge of indigenous crafts within society.

 He added that the exhibition was experimental and expressed the intention to continue such programmes in collaboration with the Academy in the coming days.

The exhibition that began on Monday will continue until December 14.
