By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 7: Tribhuvan Army Club, the departmental team, emerged as the champion of the 13th Korean Ambassador International Taekwondo Championship. Over six days of competition at the Nepal Taekwondo Association’s Academy Hall in Satdobato, the Army team secured 10 gold, 12 silver, and 10 bronze medals.
Nepal Police Club, another departmental team, finished in second place, winning 6 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze medals. The Armed Police Force’s APF Club secured third place with 4 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals.
In the children's category, Lalitpur's Swastik Taekwondo Dojang claimed the top spot, winning 7 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze medals. Jaishidewal finished second with 2 gold and 1 bronze, while Godavari Dojang took third with 1 gold and 3 bronze medals.
In the cadet category, Pokhari Taekwondo Dojang came first, earning 2 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals. Swastik Dojang followed in second place with 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze, while Godavari International Fitness secured third place with 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze.
Bijeshwari Sainik School triumphed in the junior category, winning 3 gold and 1 bronze. Gorkhali Dojang came second with 2 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze, while Khudunabari Dojang secured third place with 1 gold and 1 bronze.
The event was organised by the Nepal Taekwondo Association with special support from the South Korean Embassy in Nepal. Ashish Bhandari of Nepal Police Club and Swastika Tamang of the Army were named the best players in the senior men's and women's categories, respectively.
In the children's category, Suman Tamang of Swastik Taekwondo Dojang and Reshma Gurung of Bishnu Devi Dojang were honoured as the best players. Karan Yadav of Pokhari Dojang and Yumi Pakhrin of Godavari Dojang were the best players in the cadet category. In the junior category, Rahul Hang Limbu of Jaishidewal Dojang and Soya Chakradhar of Sanothimi were named the best in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
The winning teams and best players were awarded by former Youth and Sports Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, President of the Nepal Taekwondo Association Deepraj Gurung, Vice President and Competition Coordinator Bhan Bahadur Chand, General Secretary Hemant Dangi, Central Member Bablu Siwakoti, and other distinguished guests.
The championship, which began on December 1, featured players from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Bhutan. The competition included Gyorogi, Poomsae, and Para Taekwondo, with 1,530 participants competing across all three disciplines.
