59 short stories selected for Baahrakhari contest

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 5: Dishhome-Baahrakhari Short Story Competition (2082) has selected 59 short stories.They were selected from 1,168 stories received from Nepal and abroad, according to the Baahrakhari Media.

The Bahrakari Media said in a press statement that a four-member internal jury team led by coordinator Govinda Adhikari selected the 59 short stories.

On October 17, Baahrakhari had issued an open call for short stories from Nepali-language writers across the world. Within the deadline set for midnight on Novemeber 16, Nepali short story writers residing in Nepal as well as in New Delhi, Assam, Darjeeling (India), and in China, the UAE, the USA, Australia, South Korea, the UK, Japan, Canada, Qatar, Spain, Finland, Cyprus, Indonesia and other countries, submitted their works.

Stories by Chetanath Acharya, Devendra Chinar, Sridhar Khanal, Durga Dhenga, Ilaiya Pathak, Umesh Shrestha, Rajendra Adhikari, Shekhar Dahit, Shivraj Shahi, Biplabman Singh, Krishnaraj Sarbahari, Jwala Dhakal, Ritesh Gurung, Anita Kharel, Bipin Adhima, Bishnu Prasad Subedi, Devendra Pratap Shah, Binod Dhakal, Deven Sapkota, Pragya Niraula, Rajkumar Shrestha, Sita Pandey, Bhagawat Khanal, Keshav Bhattarai and Bhogendra Lingden were selected. 

Likewise, stories by Haribol Kafle, Basantabayung Rai, Kumar Kafle, Laxman Sitaula, Pratiksha Kattel, Narad Prasad Thapaliya, Indra Prasad Gotame, Jamuna Bhattarai, Saayujya Raj Ghimire, Apsana Chaulagain, Anita Panthi, Avinath Bhattarai, Lalit Bista, Elisa Dhungana, Samiksha Thapa, Tulsi Giri, Taranath Parajuli, Mandira Madhushree, and Amit Ghimire have also been shortlisted.

Similarly, stories by JN Dahal, Tikaram Pokharel, Uma Sharma, Anita Koirala, Bishnu S Rai, Damodar Dhungel, Prakash Kumar Sharma, Birendra Dhakal, Amar Kumar Pradhan, Amrita Pathak Chaulagain, Deva Adhikari, Sanvindra Pradhan ‘Mani’, Arjun Nepal, Himalal Shrestha, and Dipesh Rai are also included in the top 59.

From the shortlisted stories, a jury panel consisting of playwright, director and  author Ashesh Malla (coordinator) and short story writers Manju Kanchuli and Avaya Shrestha will further select best three, along with the top 25.

Starting this year, the first-place winner of the competition will receive a purse of Rs. 200,000 along with a trophy and certificate. The second and third-place winners will receive Rs. 100,000 and Rs. 60,000 respectively, along with trophies and certificates. Each of the remaining 22 writers will receive Rs. 7,000 and a certificate.
