Human Rights Int'l Film Festival from Dec. 11

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 4: The 13th edition of the Nepal Human Rights International Film Festival (NHRIFF) is all set to be held in Kathmandu from December 11 to 15.

The film festival, which has been organised since 2010, will feature films, documentaries, and short films highlighting various human rights issues. This year, the theme is child rights.

According to Pandav Khatri, chairperson of the Human Rights Film Centre, over 40 films from around the world will be screened during the festival. He added that, along with film screenings, there will be discussions with filmmakers on various issues.

The festival will include several sections including a ‘Competition’ section for Nepali and international films produced between 2024 and 2025, a ‘Special Screening’ section for films addressing critical human rights concerns, ‘Yesteryears’ Eyes’ for classic human rights films and ‘Partners’ Panorama’, showcasing films from NHRIFF’s partner organisations.

 The Nepali Panorama section will highlight short and documentary films produced in Nepal.

Khatri said that selected films in the ‘Competition’ category will be eligible for cash prizes and awards, including Best Documentary (Nepal and International) and Best Fiction (Nepal and International). 

Each award includes a trophy, a certificate of achievement, and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, he added.

The film festival will take place at the Film Development Board Nepal and the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu.
