Gorkhapatra Literary Festival marked in Sailung

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Nov. 24: The two-day Gorkhapatra Literary Festival concluded with recitation of poems by acclaimed poets in Sailung of Dolakha district on Saturday morning. 

The event was attended by a number of reputed poets including Madan Puraskar winner Yubaraj Nayaghare at scenic religious and touristic spot at 3,150 meters above sea level. 

Speaking at the function, General Manager of Gorkhapatra Corporation Lal Bahadur Airi said that the event aimed at inspiring the local talents to document their feelings about the beautiful location and offer their creation to the readers. “The contemporary media should also take up creative journalism to portray the realities of life.”

 “We have to build an environment where the historic sites thrive and contribute to the development of literature,” he further said. “This programme will familiarise Sailung to readers all around the world.”

Highlighting the link between society and journalism, Airi said such programmes would also enhance people’s trust in journalism. 

A number of poets, including Subash Chandra Paudel, Laxmi Dhakal, Ranjana Niraula, Amardeep Sunuwar, Bimukh Paudel, Raju Kumar Mahat, Kishor Pahadi, Lucky Chaudhary and Balkrishna Thapaliya recited their poems in the function. Amar Bantuk, Tara BM, Ranjana Thapaliya, Deep Shankhar Chaulagain, Sushila Sharma, Bishnu Bahadur Basnet, Sushila Khadka, Januka Rai, Nandu Upreti, Tirtha Adhikari, Amrita BK, Dipika KC, and Janaki Shrestha also read out their creations.

The function chaired by Junarbabu Basnet, Acting Editor-in-Chief of Gorkhapatra daily, was also attended by Narayan Prasad Risal, Chief District Officer of Dolakha, who also read out his peace on the beauty of the Himalayan range seen from Charikot. Dhan Bahadur Tamang, ward chair of Sailung Rural Municipality-8, welcomed the guests to the function.
