By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Nov. 8: Senior Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has reiterated his call for the party’s 15th General Convention to be held by December 2025. Speaking in an informal discussion with district presidents and former district presidents gathered in Kathmandu, Dr. Koirala urged the urgent need for the convention to take place before the upcoming general election, to ensure the party enters the polls with a fresh and united leadership.
"I have been advocating for some time now that the 15th General Convention should be held by December. If, due to time constraints or other pressures, it does not happen by then, we must ensure it takes place by January 2026 under any circumstances," said Koirala.
He further emphasised the importance of scheduling the General Convention in a manner that does not conflict with the election timetable set by the Election Commission, thereby ensuring the party remains aligned with national electoral processes.
Koirala underlined that the Nepali Congress must move forward with a spirit of unity, responsibility, and seriousness. He called for the party to focus on the nation, the people, and the protection of democracy. He acknowledged the challenges the party had faced in recent years and insisted that now, more than ever, unity was crucial. He warned against the emergence of sub-groups and factions within the party and urged all members to prioritise collective interests over personal ambitions.
"I want to see unity and reconciliation within our party. It is time to end the divisions, sub-groups, and factions that have hindered our progress. We must march forward together, without bias or prejudice, for the good of the party and the country," added Koirala.
Expressing confidence in the loyalty and dedication of the party’s grassroots members, Koirala acknowledged the hard work of honest and committed individuals who have been the backbone of the Nepali Congress. He also pointed out that millions of well-wishers of the party, along with external parties, were closely observing the leadership's decisions and actions.
The statement comes at a time when the Nepali Congress is facing increasing pressure to strengthen its leadership and unity ahead of the general election. With the party’s internal divisions often making headlines, Koirala’s call for a more united and focused approach has sparked significant discussion among both party members and the wider political community.
