By Sher Bahadur Sarki,Bajura, Nov. 7: Works to reconstruct a new building of the Bajura Prison, which has been in a dilapidated condition for a long time, have begun.

Since the new building of the Bajura prison is being constructed, the detainees have been sent to Achham and the prisoners to Nepalgunj.

There were 49 prisoners and 18 detainees in the Bajura prison. Since the new prison is being constructed, the 18 inmates here have been sent to Achham and 49 prisoners to Nepalgunj, according to the Bajura prison.

The Urban Development Department, Doti, and the contractor company responsible for the construction of the building had written a letter to vacate the prison.

Based on the same letter, the Bajura Prison wrote to the District Administration Office, Bajura, and then the District Administration sent a letter to the Prison Management Department, Kathmandu, for the transfer of its prisoners to other prisons.

Based on that letter, the Prison Management Department, Kathmandu, gave permission to transfer the prisoners to Nepalgunj, and then the prisoners were sent to Nepalgunj.

Built in 1980, the prison, which had a capacity to hold 25 prisoners, currently housed 67 prisoners and detainees.

The prisoners had repeatedly demanded that the prison was old and dilapidated and that it be repaired.  Administrator Anil Kumar Tiwari said that a well-equipped prison would be built in Bajura at a cost of Rs. 93.5 million under the Reconstruction Authority under Intensive Urban Development.

He said, “The construction work of the prison has now begun. Although the work was said to start in mid-September, the work was delayed due to the Gen-Z movement.”

The new prison to be built will have a capacity to accommodate 75 men and 25 women, with a total of 100 inmates.

Administrator Tiwari said that the new prison will have all the physical structures including an administration building, security guard building, toilets, playground, drinking water, and other facilities outside the prison.
