By A Staff Reporter,Bhaktapur, Nov. 7: Veteran critic Dayaram Shrestha was conferred on the Chakrapani Memorial Award-2082 amid an event organised in Katunje, Bhaktapur, on Thursday.
Senior essayist and literary journalist, Rochak Ghimire, handed over the award to Shrestha in the event organised by the Chakrapani Memorial Foundation on the occasion of 143rd birth anniversary of late litterateur Chakrapani Chalise.
Shrestha was awarded for his outstanding contribution to Nepali criticism and carrying the legacy of late Chalise. The award carries a purse of Rs. 20,000.
Likewise, Ghimire handed over the Gomashree Bangmaya Puraskar-2082 to Bhaktapur-based writer Ram Sharan Neupane. The award, established by Pradhyumna Chalise in memory of his father Govinda Prasad and mother Mayadevi, carries a purse of Rs. 5,000.
Similarly, Ghimire gave away the Baijanath-Shubhadra Chalise Encouragement Awards to two students, Aayusman Shrestha and Yunisha Achhami, for securing highest score in Nepali subject throughout the schools based in Suryavinayak Municipality of Bhaktapur district.
In the function, Balakrishna Adhikary spoke about the personality and creativity of critic Shretha, while Shailendu Prakash Nepal shed light on writer Nepane.
A number of poets including Rajani Mila, Manju Singh Shrestha, Rahena Nakarmi, Raju Jhallu Prasad, Basanta Nakarmi and school students presented their poems. Among students reciting the poems, Nikita Budhathoki of Om Secondary School, Katunje, was announced the best.
Meanwhile, senior essayist Ghimire and others unveiled the essay especial issue of Chakrapani yearly magazine during the event.
Yadevi Dhakal and Laxmi Thapa presented their reflections on the tendencies of essays published in the issue.
The issue featured essays by Tejeshwar Babu Gonga, Madan Chitrakar, Posh Chapagain, Manju Kanchuli, Jaya Chhanchha, Bina Paudel, Basudev Guragain, Pratik Dhakal, Shreeom Rodan, Laxman Gautam, Manasagni.
Similarly, essays by Suresh Kiran, Prakash Saymi, Roshan Sherchan, Gyanu Adhikari, Kumari Lama, Jitendra Rasik, Mahesh Paudyal, Prakash Guragain, Deepak Sapkota and Raju Jhallu Prasad and others were also published in the issue.
The issue is edited by Ram Gopal Ashutosh.
At the function, awardee Shrestha, essayist Ghimire, chairman of Chakrapani Smarak Foundation Rammani Dhungel, member-secretary Ram Gopal Ashutosh, member Nagendra Paudel and others presented their memories and reflections on Chakrapani Chalise.
Chakrapani Chalise was born in 1940BS.and died in BS 2015. He had many important books including Sanchhipta Bharat, Sanchhipta Ramayan, Bagalikosh and others to his credit.
