Humla Hospital sets a record, completing surgery

blog

By Our Correspondent,Humla, Nov. 5:A woman has undergone successful surgery for the first time in the remote Himalayan district of Humla.

Locals said that the district has achieved a historic milestone despite difficult geographical conditions, limited resources, and a shortage of health personnel.

A health team led by Dr. Umakanta Tiwari successfully performed surgery on Hira Sunar, who hails from Simkot Rural Municipality.

According to Sarita Bohora, a senior ANM at the district hospital, after the successful surgery, Sunar gave birth to her second child. Bohora informed that the condition of both the mother and the newborn baby is currently stable.

Dr. Tiwari led a team including nursing staff members Kanchan Chaudhary, Sharmila Giri, Sarita Bohora, and paramedic Prem Bhandari, who completed the surgery.

Previously, due to a lack of skilled doctors and limited infrastructure, most pregnant women in Humla had to travel outside the district in the need for a cesarean section at, high expense.

Meanwhile, a pregnant woman died last year while being taken to the hospital for a delivery.

However, Dr. Tiwari and his team have set an example by successfully performing a delivery surgery in the district recently. Nevertheless, the district hospital continues to face a shortage of medicines.
