Kathmandu, Oct 18: The group led by Miraj Dhungana, one of the leaders of the recent Gen Z movement, has announced that it will not participate in the upcoming election until their 'bottom line' demand for a directly elected executive system is fulfilled.
In a press conference organized by the group at New Baneshwor in Kathmandu today, the group unveiled its agenda and asserted that although they are considering forming a political party to bring together the Gen-Z generation, they will not contest the election until their 'bottom line' demands are addressed.
An interim government was formed on September 12 with an announcement to hold fresh elections to the House of Representatives on March 5, 2026.
The group has been primarily advocating for two key agendas: a directly elected executive system and voting rights for Nepali citizens residing abroad.
Dhungana, while releasing their agenda, further emphasized the formation of a citizen-led investigation committee for corruption control and the adoption of a clear policy on economic transformation.
According to him, his group has concluded that the formation of a political party is essential to prevent the Gen-Z movement from being derailed.
He informed that they are currently collecting suggestions for an 'appropriate' name for the new party.
"We will continue to fight for issues like the promotion of good governance and corruption control. We will not let the sacrifices of Gen-Z go in vain," pledged Dhungana, calling for collective commitment and cooperation in the nation’s development bid.
He also urged a common resolution for achieving economic prosperity.
Stating that the country's economy has become frail due to the increasing exodus of Nepali youths going abroad for employment, he stated that the government should be held responsible for addressing such pressing issues.
He drew the attention of the interim government to immediately initiate the process of reopening closed industries and creating jobs. He also highlighted the need to develop and promote the tourism sector.
Clarifying his group's position on economic matters, he emphasized the importance of boosting domestic production. He noted, "We are surrounded by two highly populated neighboring countries, and we should increase our production with them as our target markets."(RSS)
