By Siraj Khan,Nepalgunj, Oct. 17: Senior folk singer and national artist Kamal BK Nirmohi, who has sung more than two hundred folk songs, has been seriously ill for the past few days.

After both of his kidneys failed, he has been undergoing regular dialysis treatment at Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj.

Nirmohi, who has long contributed to the fields of music, singing, journalism, and instrumental performance, has been bedridden due to health problems for some time. His right leg has swollen, and he has difficulty walking, for which his family has been providing treatment as much as possible. Currently, he is undergoing treatment under the supervision of Dr. Paras Shrestha.

Although his condition is stable, the continuous dialysis treatment has caused a heavy financial burden, said Nirmohi. He added that although treatment has been managed somehow, it has now become difficult to afford the expenses. Hence, he has appealed to the government, organisations, and well-wishers for help.

Social activist Namaskar Shah said that senior singer Nirmohi, who has served the nation for a long time through folk songs and various cultural programmes, could be saved through a kidney transplant. Shah also announced that a fundraising campaign and support programmes will soon be launched and urged everyone to participate and contribute.

According to him, Kamal BK Nirmohi is known as a multi-talented artist in the Nepali art scene. With his melodious voice, he has won the hearts of many, and his voice has been the soul of numerous programmes in the fields of hosting and journalism.

Having worked for Radio Nepal and various television channels for a long time, he has left a mark from the local to the national level. Skilled in instrumental music, Nirmohi has also inspired many artists. He had been actively involved in several musical events, cultural festivals, and social campaigns.

Many people believe that saving such a multi-dimensional personality is the responsibility of both the nation and society. It has become a matter of concern for all art lovers that a person who has dedicated his life to the field of art is now struggling to afford treatment due to financial hardship, said social worker Jayanarayan Shah.

He further added that a financial committee will soon be formed to mobilise more resources for the continued treatment and support of singer Nirmohi.
