Chuden Kabimo receives Madan Puraskar

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Oct. 13: Author Chuden Kabimo received the Madan Puraskar for his book ‘Urmaal’ while Premdev Giri, a collector and preserver of folk tunes, was honoured with the Jagadamba-Shree Puraskar in Patan on Sunday.

Along with these prestigious literary awards, both recipients received Rs. 100,000 each.

At the event, Madan Puraskar Guthi Chairperson Kunda Dixit presented the certificates of honour and the prize amounts to the awardees.

Premdev Giri said that he was born in Surkhet, Karnali, and began his formal theatrical journey in 1968, engaging in stage performances at the Rastriya Naach Ghar from 1972 to 1984.

He also recounted his fascinating experience from 1986 to 1988, when he played the madal on Radio Nepal while collecting folk songs and melodies from remote villages in the Karnali and Bheri regions.

Madan Puraskar awardee Chuden Kabimo, author of ‘Urmaal’, during the ceremony said, “Love and literature have no boundaries.”

He expressed his belief that literature always connects with the marginalised, the oppressed, and humanity itself, saying, “I wish to keep writing to preserve the human virtues within people.”

Likewise, during the award ceremony, cultural scholar Prof. Dr. Beena Paudyal delivered a scholarly address on the theme “Art, Sculpture, and Preservation.”
