World Post Day marked with various programmes

By Our Correspondent,Salyan, Oct. 10: On the occasion of World Post Day, various programmes were organised in Salyan.

To mark the 151st World Post Day, the District Post Office Salyan held an open speech competition among secondary-level schools.

A total of 11 students from eight schools across the district participated in the competition, which was held under the theme ‘Use of Information Technology in Postal Services.’

 Each participant was given five minutes to present their opinions. The students expressed their opinions on the transformation of postal services in the changing era of technology, the impact of such transformation, and the importance of information technology in expanding access to postal services.

In the competition, Sudip Sharma of Jyoti Punj Academy secured first place, Sujata Oli of Tribhuvan Basic Secondary School came second, and Bijeta Bhandari of MM Academy, Sharada Municipality -3, bagged the third position.

The winners will receive Rs. 7,500, Rs. 5,000, and Rs. 3,000 respectively, along with certificates.

The panel of judges included District Election Officer of Salyan Dhirendra Bhandari, Chief Administrative Officer of Sharada Municipality Om Prakash Devkota, and others. 

During the event, District Election Officer Dhirendra Bhandari expressed his best wishes and remarked that such programmes help enhance students’ public speaking and leadership skills.

Similarly, Pratik Sharma, Chairperson of the Community Radio Broadcasters’ Association of Karnali Province, praised the continuity and reliability of postal services and highlighted that the use of information technology could make postal services even more efficient.

Chintamani Regmi, Chief of the District Post Office Salyan, said the programme aimed to increase students' understanding of postal services and spark interest in the postal system among the younger generation. 

Regmi further added that postal services are now developing into modern, professional service providers accessible to citizens. According to him, “In the coming days, a letter-writing competition will also be organised with a focus on students.”

On this occasion, the District Post Office also announced that fruits would be distributed to patients at Salyan Hospital and a quiz competition on postal services would be held among postal employees.
