Kavrepalanchok, Oct 7: The continuous rain last Friday, Saturday and Sunday has caused floods and landslides, disrupting road network and electricity supply in four local levels in the district.
It is stated that several rural areas in those rural municipalities have experienced disruption in communication services due to power outages, and it will take a few days more to resume road transport.
The roads to Khanikhola, Mahabharat, Roshi and Bethanchok rural municipalities in the district have been blocked by landslides. Some rural municipalities, however, have started to clear the roads using necessary equipment from Monday.
The road leading to the two rural municipalities across the remote Mahabharat mountain range has been completely blocked due to floods and landslides. Local representatives have stated that it will take about a week to reopen the road, especially the road leading to the Khani Khola and Mahabharat rural municipalities in the area.
In Mahabharat, the area is cut off from road, electricity, and communication links. The Mahabharat rural municipality chairman, Kanchhalal Jimba, stated that there is no alternative road to reach Mahabharat because the roads are blocked. According to him, all roads in various wards, including the main road to the rural municipality office, are blocked at different places.
Chairperson of Khanikhola Rural Municipality, Indra Bahadur Thing, said that all roads leading to the Rural Municipality are blocked, so it will take some time to repair and open the roads. According to him, machines have been used to open the road since Monday.
Likewise in Roshi Rural Municipality, the roads to various wards of the rural municipality have been blocked after temporary diversions on the BP Highway were eroded and washed away due to flooding of the Roshi river.
The Roshi Rural Municipality Chair Dinesh Lama said that the rural municipality centre will be connected to the road network only after repairing the damaged road at Chaukidanda and Ghumaune. According to him, as the electricity service in Roshi is partially disrupted, efforts are being made to fully restore the service immediately.
In Bethanchok, local representatives have been active since Sunday to open the blocked roads at different places of the rural municipality. It has been reported that priority has been given to opening the blocked main road. Bhagwan Adhikari, the chairperson of the rural municipality, stated that machines are being used to open the roads connecting other wards from the rural municipality office.
