Communication service providers urged to ensure effective information flow

BY A STAFF REPORTER,Kathmandu, Oct. 5: As continuous rainfall disrupts daily life across much of the country, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has called on all communication service providers to ensure effective and uninterrupted information flow.

Issuing a press statement on Saturday, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, informed that a heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in many parts of Nepal over the next three days. Following the forecast, the ministry instructed service providers to strengthen information delivery to help protect lives and minimize damage to property.

A meeting held at the ministry on Saturday, in the presence of Minister Jagdish Kharel, urged related agencies to take necessary precautions against possible disruptions to communication infrastructure caused by the continuous downpour.

Minister Kharel also emphasised that all communication service providers must remain on high alert to deliver accurate, timely, and reliable information to citizens. 

For emergency communication during disasters, the ministry has asked to contact on Nepal Telecom (1498), Ncell (9005), Internet Service Providers (9851026241) and Nepal Telecommunications Authority (01-5522322 / 01-5523203) and MoCIT (01-4211563 / 01-4211151).

The ministry has also appealed to all journalists and media organisations to remain proactive in delivering timely and essential information to the public during the exigent period.
