Administration's advisory not to travel in and out of Valley by road at night from Oct 3-6

Kathmandu, Oct 3: The District Administration Office Kathmandu has requested commuters not to enter or travel out of Kathmandu by road at night for the next few days as it has received information from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology about heavy rainfall starting today.

Kathmandu's Assistant Chief District Officer Ashok Kumar Bhandari stated that according to the weather forecast information disseminated from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, heavy rainfall is expected in the district from October 3 to 6, and there is a possibility of disaster-related incidents such as floods, landslides, and soil erosion in risk-prone areas, therefore residents are requested to remain in their own places and exercise caution and vigilance.

The district administration has also requested general public not to travel long distances during that period unless absolutely necessary.

Assistant Chief District Officer Bhandari issued a notice stating, "It is requested that those people travelling out of Kathmandu and entering Kathmandu from outside refrain from travelling at night."

In the event of any immediate need for rescue, assistance, and relief during a disaster, the administration has through a notice requested people to contact the District Police Office, Kathmandu at 1660–01–41516, 9851283026, 01–5721017, the Armed Police Force Nepal No. 20 (Disaster Rescue) Unit, Sinamangal at 9851272035, 01–4471337, and the District Emergency Operation Centre at 9851362937.

Previously, the Lalitpur District Administration had also decided to halt vehicle movement on the Kanti Highway. It decided to allow vehicle operation only from 6 am to 4 pm and to prohibit vehicles larger than four-wheel drive vehicles from operating.

Likewise, other various districts have also decided to restrict vehicular traffic in the risk areas.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, monsoon activity will become active from tonight. The department has already announced that more rain is predicted on Saturday and Sunday. (RSS)
