EU Ambassador Lorenzo calls on Minister Ghising

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 27: Ambassador of the European Union to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, has paid a courtesy call on Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development Kul Man Ghising on Friday.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation in Singha Durbar, Ambassador Veronique Lorenzo congratulated Minister Ghising on behalf of the European Union and wished him a successful tenure.

The meeting with the Ambassador of the European Union (EU), which has been assisting Nepal's energy sector, discussed various issues of strategic importance, such as transformational reservoir hydropower projects, green energy, energy security and efficiency, and additional assistance to the energy sector, according to a press statement issued by the Minister's secretariat.

Minister Ghising said that the priorities of the government formed after the Gen-Z movement were elections, good governance, and the reconstruction of the physical infrastructure damaged due to the movement. 

However, he said that the work of this government was to ensure policy and legal reforms, inter-ministerial coordination to advance development projects, and ensure the electricity market as well.

Expressing his gratitude for the assistance provided by the EU for Nepal's development, Minister Ghising urged the EU to raise the necessary funds for the financial management of the projects and to provide additional assistance for improving the transmission and distribution system, as the construction of the 670-MW Dudhkoshi Reservoir Project is a high priority.

Ambassador Lorenzo said that the EU was always ready to provide further assistance and cooperation in Nepal's energy sector.
