By Siraj Khan,Nepalgunj, Sept. 26: The District Police Office, Banke, has prepared and implemented a special security plan targeting major festivals like Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.

Deputy Superintendent of Police of the District Police Office, Banke, Deepak Patali, said that 1,100 police have been deployed in the district to implement the plan.

He said that mobile and foot patrols have been intensified in places including Nepalgunj, Kohalpur and Khajura to prevent thefts during Dashain and Tihar.

“Mobile and foot patrols have been intensified to create an environment for the general public to celebrate festivals safely,” said DSP Patali.

Stating that continuous surveillance has also been started using drone cameras as needed, he said that passenger assistance rooms have also been operated at checkpoints and bus parks to create an environment for Nepalis coming from India to reach their destinations easily and safely.

The police have urged people not to do anything that will affect others while celebrating their festivals and have warned of strict action against those who create noise and disrupt peace and security.

The police have said that vehicle checks and monitoring of traffic have been started under the security plan.

He said that Nepal Police and Traffic Police have jointly started checking and if found to be driving at high speed or violating traffic rules, action will be taken against the driver at the spot.

Stating that past studies have shown that driving under the influence of alcohol and driving at high speed in the name of reaching the destination quickly is more common during the festival, he said that traffic police have also been mobilised along with the district police on various roads.

Traffic Police Inspector Pushkar Raj Panta of the District Traffic Police Office, Banke said that 75 traffic police have been mobilised in Banke under the security plan and action will be taken if found to be consuming drugs or alcohol and carrying more passengers than the capacity.

"As there is a risk of accidents when a single driver drives a vehicle, checks are also being made to see if there are two drivers in vehicles that travel long distances," he said.
