By Amar Raj Naharki,Tanahun, Sept. 23: The 157th Bhanu Memorial Day, which fell on Monday, was observed with various programmes to pay homage to the pioneer Nepali poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya.
The chief guest of the event, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Shantiraman Wagle, said that Bhanu Bhakta’s translation of the Ramayana into Nepali significantly contributed to the development of the national language and continues to be an inspiration today.
Wagle said, “Bhanu Bhakta’s contributions have not only enriched Nepali literature and language but have also strengthened our identity. The new generation needs to study, research, and implement this in practice.”
Anand Raj Tripathi, Mayor of Bhanu Municipality, said that the municipality has been constructing infrastructure to develop the area as a literary and cultural tourist center. The mayor added that the municipality is preparing long-term master plans for sustained development.
Rajendra Krishna Shrestha, Chairperson of Rishing Rural Municipality, said that Bhanu Bhakta’s dedication serves as guidance for the current generation. He emphasised the need to promote Bhanu Bhakta’s ideas through programmes at the local level as well.
Chief District Officer Ramkrishna Adhikari stressed that respect for Bhanu Bhakta should not be limited to memory alone but should be translated into practice.
He said, “Only by effectively incorporating Bhanu Bhakta’s works into school curricula can a true tribute be paid.”
During the event, speakers, including Ramkumar Shrestha, Chairperson of the Pioneer Poet Bhanu Birthplace Development Committee, Krishnakumar Shrestha, Chairperson of Satighat Dham Management Committee and Kripa Hari Laudari, Information Officer of Bhanu Municipality, remembered Bhanu Bhakta Acharya as a pillar of Nepali literature and called on everyone to draw inspiration from his ideals.
