Japanese encephalitis: Five dead in Chitwan so far

Chitwan, Sept 15: Five persons died from Japanese encephalitis in Chitwan district so far in the current fiscal year. Out of 16 infected persons, five lost lives. 

Chief of District Health Office, Chitwan, Dinesh Rupakheti said a 42-year-old woman of Rapti municipality died from Japanese encephalitis on September 23.  

Earlier, 70-year-old person of Bharatpur municipality-22, 89-year-old person of Kalika municipality-5, 70-year-old person of Rapti municipality and 81-year-old person of Bharatpur metropolitan city-12 succumbed to the Japanese encephalitis. 

In the last fiscal year, out of three persons infected with this disease, one had lost his life. People of Bharatpur metropolis, Kalika municipality, Rapti municipality, Khairahani municipality and Madi municipality have been found infected with the mosquito-borne disease.

The disease is transmitted from the bite of a female Culex mosquito. (RSS)
