Kathmandu, April 9: Ambassador of Switzerland to Nepal Dr Danielle Meuwly paid a courtesy call on Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal.
On the occasion, they discussed various dimensions of historic bilateral relations between the two countries, parliamentary collaboration, Nepal's peace process and financial support, according to Speaker Aryal's Secretariat.
Welcoming Ambassador Meuwly, Speaker Aryal mentioned that there is deep and excellent relations between Nepal and Switzerland since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1956.
He underlined that Nepal has given high importance to relations with Switzerland, expressing the view that this friendship is based on mutual respect and cooperation.
Stating that Switzerland is an example in the world for a successful practice of participatory democracy, the Speaker opined that Nepal has been continuously making efforts to strengthen democratic organisations upto the local levels.
Speaker Aryal lauded the contributions of Switzerland to Nepal's socio-economic endeavors through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
"I am confident that the area of this development collaboration will be further expanded in the coming days," he argued, expressing belief that exchanges of high-level visits would further strengthen relations between the parliaments of both countries.
The Speaker also invited the President of the National Council of Switzerland to visit Nepal at an appropriate time, remembering high-level visits to Geneva in 2024. He also expressed commitment to give continuity to the trend of forming Nepal-Switzerland Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Federal Parliament.
Similarly, Swiss Ambassador Meuwly expressed commitment for collaboration by remaining close to Nepal in shared challenges of climate change and socio-economic development.
She assured of continuous support of Switzerland for strengthening Nepal's democracy and to complete the remaining task of the peace process.(RSS)
