Bhanubhakta, Mayakovsky remembered

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 15: Nepal-Russia Literary Society and the Russian Centre, Kathmandu, recently organised a literary evening to commemorate the 212th birth anniversary of Nepal’s pioneer poet Bhanubhakta Acharya and the 132nd birth anniversary of acclaimed Soviet era poet Vladimir Mayakovsky.

The event was divided into two sessions. In the first, titled the 'Bhanubhakta Session,' Keshavraj Bista spoke on the significance of Bhanubhakta Acharya, while poets Dinesh Shivakoti, TP Barakoti, Kiran Darnal, Janpali, Sajan Subedi, Aseem Khanal, and Punya Ghimire recited poems.

The second session, dedicated to 'Mayakovsky,' featured Santosh Pokharel shedding light on the Russian poet’s literary contributions, love life, and political engagement. “Mayakovsky was a prominent Soviet-era poet known for his bold and experimental style,” Pokharel remarked. He, along with Shakuntala Joshi and Deepak Chaulagai, also recited Mayakovsky’s poems.

Ram Bindu Shrestha, General Secretary of the Nepal-Russia Literary Society; Nahedra Pradhan, former Vice President of Mitrakunj, and Bhawana Neupane highlighted the lives and legacies of both Bhanubhakta Acharya and Vladimir Mayakovsky.
